Sports are an excellent tool that the church can use to be a loving presence in our community.
As a ministry of the Local Involvement Team, our objectives are:
- Use sports as a tool to reach out with the love of Jesus to our community
- Connect people with each other, create community
- Connect people with the church
- Connect people with God
With these things in mind, we are looking for people who have a passion for sports that would love to be leaders in this ministry. Serving in the sports outreach ministry can take various forms:
- Playing in a community league with the purpose of building relationships with other players and their families and leading them toward a relationship with Jesus.
- Coaching in a community league, using your influence for Christ.
- Committing to be on mission as a family by joining one of our outreach initiatives in the community that involves sports.
- Getting trained to be a team captain in one of our adult sports leagues at Southland.
If you are looking for a place to serve our community with people who have a similar passion for sports, then the Sports Outreach Ministry is the place for you. If you are interested in being a leader in the sports ministry, contact Jeff.
AS 1 Sports Ministry
Help Us Invest in the Next Generation
AS 1 Sports Ministry is Southland’s outreach ministry to kids in our community through sports. Southland seeks to partner with community agencies, churches and other ministries to take sports ministry to kids in our community.
Our strategy with AS 1 is to reach people where they are with the good news of Jesus. In order to do that we need:
- Mission minded coaches to love, teach and train kids about Jesus and how to live for him, using sports as the tool.
- Mission minded families who would be willing to sign up their kids to play in these leagues and parents who would be willing to help create Christian community on their teams and therefore reach entire families for Jesus.
- Leaders who would be willing to organize leagues in various places around our community.
