Southland Christian Church Begins Demolition on Richmond Road Property
Lexington, Kentucky — May 13, 2011 – Southland Christian Church has begun the first phase of construction at the former Lexington Mall which will be the site of their future Richmond Road Campus . The church has hired Messer Construction as the construction management firm for the project. Demolition of the car wash has begun, with demolition of the one story section of the former mall and selective interior demolition of the former Dillard’s building to follow.
About the Facility:
Southland plans to renovate a total of 133,000 square feet of the former mall buildings. This includes:
- A new 51,000 square foot Worship Center with seating for 2,800 people. (Adjacent to the former Dillard’s building in place of the former mall space)
- The Worship Center includes floor seating and balcony seating.
- 84,000 square feet of the former Dillard’s space will be renovated for use by various ministries including, but not limited to, nursery, children, middle school, high school, and teaching spaces.
- 61,000 square feet of the former Dillard’s space will be left unfinished for future expansion of ministry needs.
- There will be approximately 1,800 parking spaces available.
Southland hopes to begin holding services in early 2013. The plan is to launch with a Saturday evening service and two Sunday morning services. The Richmond Road Campus will be the church’s third campus including their current sites on Harrodsburg Road in Nicholasville and on Ben Ali Drive in Danville.

Southland Christian Church Closes on Purchase of Portion of Lexington Mall Property
Lexington, Kentucky — September 27, 2010 – Southland Christian Church has closed on the purchase of a portion of the Lexington Mall property at the corner of Richmond Road and New Circle Road.
The mall building and nearly 32 acres were purchased for a price of $8,132,000. Project costs including property acquisition, construction costs and associated expenses are estimated at $30 million. Southland intends to raise money for the project from their congregation at their Harrodsburg Road and Danville campuses
Their plan is for this third campus to be in operation by year-end of 2012.

Southland Christian Church to Purchase Part of the Lexington Mall Property
Lexington, Kentucky — September 9, 2010 – Southland Christian Church has received approval for the Amended Development Plan it proposed for the redevelopment of the Lexington Mall property on Richmond Road. Lexington Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the proposed plan today at their monthly meeting giving Southland permission to develop it as their third church campus. Approval by the Planning Commission is also a condition for purchase of the property that they expect would be by the end of this month.
Southland would like to thank all who have been involved in helping us create a facility that we can all be proud of as we continue to share God's love with others.

Southland Christian Church To Host Public Meeting
Lexington, Kentucky — July 7, 2010 – On Tuesday, July 13, 2010, Southland Christian Church will host a public meeting at the Lexington Mall property from 5:00pm-8:00pm. The church is hoping to solicit input from area merchants, residents, and other interested parties regarding the needs of the community, as well as gather ideas about site and building design for their future campus on the property. Church leaders will also be available to answer questions about Southland and it???s ministries.

Southland Christian Church to Purchase Part of the Lexington Mall Property
Lexington — July 3, 2010 – Southland Christian Church has entered into a contract to purchase a portion of the Lexington Mall property at the corner of Richmond Road and New Circle Road. Plans are to develop an additional campus to serve more people in the community.
The church has retained EOP Architects to begin the design process, which will include soliciting input on the design of the worship center and other facilities from merchants and residents in the area, as well as other interested parties.
"We are excited to see how God will guide us through this process as we move forward with this additional location," stated Jon Weece, Lead Pastor of Southland. "Our mission is to share joy, hope and healing with others through our love of God and people."
