ONE Leader

We're excited to open the stage up this weekend to not just Jon, but also Wayne Smith and Mike Breaux. We'll take a look into past, present and future with each of Southland's senior pastors from over the years. We'll see how Christ has changed and led this place for over 50 years. Be sure to join us this week. It's going to be a great view into Southland.

Another Step

We want to share some more good news about following God's leading at Lexington Mall.  Yesterday, we filed an Amended Develop Plan with the LFUCG Division of Planning.  This process is the next step in getting the city’s blessing on how we intend to develop the property.  It includes stuff like demolishing the existing one-story portion of the mall and building a new 2,800 seat auditorium. We’d want to renovate the Dillards building, work on developing parking and traffic flow and establish a green space and stream leading to a reconfigured pond with its own water feature.

This is the culmination of a lot of work that has gone on behind the scenes over the last six weeks with our consultants.  We can’t actually develop the property until we go through this important step, which can take six weeks to… well, more than six weeks. There’s no way to know for sure.

So how can you help?  Just pray we have done a good job addressing the needs of community around the Lexington Mall as well as the needs of our potential third campus.  We’re excited to unpack more vision starting this coming weekend in our services.

Prayer

We’re still in this “due diligence” phase of the contract we have on the Lexington Mall property. And even though there aren’t any major items worth throwing out to the masses, we would like to remind you all to be in prayer. Somewhere along the discussions about purchasing this property we were given a beautiful word illustration. It went something like this...

“What if you’re going ice fishing? If you only cut a hole in the ice that’s 3” wide, you’re not going to catch a fish any bigger than that. You’re setting yourself up for a small catch. If you want to catch a whale, you better cut a bigger hole in the ice.”

There’s no question that this is a whale-sized hole in the ice. God has set us up in such an awesome way, we’ve got to continually hit our knees in response. It’s like Ephesians3:14-14 says, “My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives it’s name.” The Lexington Mall is an opportunity for that family, God’s family, to grow. We hope that you’ll join us in responding in prayer.

Pray for our leadership. Pray for the process. Pray for God’s glory to always be the centerpiece to this decision.

Thanks for walking this journey with us.

Awesome News

Recently we've entered into a contract to purchase a portion of the Lexington Mall property at the corner of Richmond Road and New Circle Road. That's right. We're heading into an additional campus in Lexington.

Our 10-7-5 vision has us looking to grow by 10,000 more followers of Jesus over a seven year period. And this property will certainly be vital to that plan. We couldn't be more excited about what God is doing and we invite you to celebrate with us. Please join us in prayer over the upcoming weeks and months as we begin our journey to reach more people in the Lexington community. We'll keep you posted about emerging details via the Southland Blog as things develop.

Our plan right now is to make Jesus famous... and we're thrilled that we're about to have a greater opportunity to do that.

If you'd like more details you can read the Press Releases.
